JNU Entrance Examination for M.Sc. Life Science 2019


Schedule
Admission notifications announces at the official website of JNU www.admissions.jnu.ac.in and the weekly journal of nation wide circulation (Employment News) in the months of September.

Eligibility
M.Sc. (Life Sciences) Programme:
Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc. or B.Tech or equivalent) in Biological, Physical or Biotechnology or Agricultural Sciences under the 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.

Ph.D.  Life Sciences:
M.Sc. degree in Life Sciences / Biological Science / Biotechnology / Botany / Zoology / Microbiology / Physical Science / Chemical Science / Agricultural Sciences / Bioinformatics / Genetics / Systems Biology / any other branch of Biological sciences with at least 55 % marks.

Scheme of Test
M.Sc. Life Science Programme:
The question paper cotains two part: A and B. All questions are objective type with multiple-choice question (MCQ) answers with a single right option. All questions are compulsory in part A. 1 marks for each correct answer in part A. In part B any 60 questions to be answered, 1.5 marks for each correct answer. No negative will be there for wrong answer. Students will be tested in their basic knowledge in the core subjects of Life Sciences / Biological Sciences. The test paper would contain subject-specific questions. There is no specific syllabus designed for the entrance test, but the students are advised to follow the UGC approved syllabus in their respective subjects for guidance.

Ph.D.  Life Sciences:
All questions are objective typewith multiple-choice question (MCQ) answers with a single right option. All questions of One mark each would be compulsory in Part A. In Part B, Students to be answered any 60 questions and 1.5 marks for each right answer, and for each wrong answer, 0.25 marks would be deducted. No negative for not attempted questions. The test paper will contain questions based on research methodology or experimental techniques related to Life Sciences or Biological Sciences research. The test paper contain subject-specific questions encompassing different branches of Life Sciences or Biological Sciences taught at the postgraduate level in various UGC affiliated universities or institutions. No specific syllabus designed for the test, but the students are advised to study CSIR-UGC-NET JRF syllabus.

BHU Entrance Examination for M.Sc. Life Sciences

BHU Entrance Examination is conducted the months of May.  Admission notifications announces at the official website of BHU www.bhuonline.in and publishes in the weekly journal of nation-wide circulation (Employment News) in the month of January.

Eligibility
M.Sc. (Botany / Zoology) Programme:
B.Sc. (Hons.) / B.Sc. under 10+2+3 pattern, securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in Science subjects (considering all the three years of B.Sc. programme). The subject in which admission is sought must be an Honours Subject at B.Sc. (Hons.) level/subject studied in all the three years at graduate level and candidate must have offered Chemistry as one of the subjects at the graduate level at least for two years.

M. Sc.  Applied Microbiology:
Candidates who have passed B. Sc. with 10+2+3 examination with any two of the following subjects Botany, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Zoology, Chemistry, Industrial Microbiology, Life Sciences and Environmental Sciences and secured at least 50% marks in aggregate, shall be considered eligible for admission to M. Sc. Applied Microbiology Course. In addition, candidates who have passed B.Sc. (Agriculture) shall also be eligible for admission to the course.

M.Sc. in Biochemistry:
B.Sc. (Hons.) in Biochemistry or B.Sc. under 10+2+3 pattern with Biochemistry as a subject in all the three years of graduation programme, securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in Science subjects (considering all the three years of graduation programme).
Or
B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry / Botany / Zoology / B.Sc. under 10+2+3 pattern with Chemistry as a subject in all the three years of B.Sc. programme securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in Science subjects (considering all the three years of Graduate Programme). The candidate must also have studied any two of the following subjects, viz., Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Physics, Geology, Physiology, Microbiology, Biotechnology and Industrial Microbiology at least for two years at the Graduate level.

Ph.D  Life Science:
The students holding Post Graduate degrees in their allied subjects are allowed to appear in the RET (Research Entrance Test) Life Science.

Scheme of Test
M.Sc. (Botany / Zoology / Applied Microbiology) Programme:
Test Paper consists of 120 Objective type questions. All questions are compulsory. For each question one and only one of the four choices given is the correct answer. Each correct answer will be given + 3 Marks. Each wrong answer will be given - 1 Marks.

M.Sc. in Bio Chemistry:
Test Paper consists of 120 Objective type questions. All questions are compulsory. For each question one and only one of the four choices given is the correct answer. Each correct answer will be given + 3 Marks. Each wrong answer will be given - 1 Marks.

BHU RET (Ph.D  Life Science):
This Booklet contains 40 multiple choice questions followed by 10 short answer questions. For each MCQ, you are to record the correct option on the Answer Sheet by darkening the appropriate circle in the corresponding row of the Answer Sheet, by pen as mentioned in the guidelines given on the first page of the Answer Sheet. For answering any five short Answer Questions use five Blank pages attached at the end of this Question Booklet.

BHU RET consists of three stage namely
Test A: Test to assess Logical and Analytical Capability
Test B: Test to assess Subject Knowledge
Test C: Research proposal and Personal Interview
Ph.D. aspirants need to clear each stage of this exam in order to be considered for BHU Ph.D. Admission.

M.Sc. in Genetics:
B.Sc. (General) / B.Sc (Hons.) / an equivalent undergraduate degree in any branch of Life Sciences / Physical Sciences / Chemical Sciences / Mathematical Sciences / Medical Sciences / Pharmacology / any Aranch of Biology / Paramedical Sciences with 60% aggregate.

M.Sc. in Biochemistry:
B.Sc. (general) / B.Sc. (Hons) / an equivalent Undergraduate Degree in any branch of Life Sciences / B.Sc. (Hons.) in Biochemistry from University of Delhi after (10+2+3) (60% in both categories).

M.Sc. in Microbiology:
B.Sc. (Hons.) in Microbiology / Biotechnology / BioPhysics / Bio-Chemistry / Botany/Chemistry / Genetics/Physics / Anthropology / Zoology / Forensic Science / B.Sc. in Bio-medical Science/Life Science/Applied Life Sciences / Physical Science / Applied Physical Sciences. B.Pharma, B.Tech in Bio-Technology / M.B.B.S./B.D.S. (55% aggregate).

Scheme of Test
The duration of written examination shall be 2 hours. The question paper shall be of Multiple Choice Question type.
There will be NEGATIVE MARKING for wrong answer. Each correct answer shall be awarded 4 marks, while one mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
You are not allowed to carry Mobile Phones or Electronic Device.

Ph.D in Microbiology:
The candidate should have a minimum 55% marks (or equivalent CGPA score) in Master’s Degree / M.Phil. / M. Tech./M.D. / M.S. in any branch of life Sciences / Medical Sciences / Any branch of Biology from a recognized University / Institute.

Ph.D in Genetics:
The candidate should have a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent CGPA score) in Master’s Degree: Life or Biological Sciences (exemplified by but not restricted to Genetics, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, Biomedical Research, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Computational Biology etc.) / Physical / Chemical / Mathematical / Computational from a recognized University / Institute.

Ph.D in Biochemistry:
The candidate should have a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent CGPA score) in Master’s Degree / M.Phil. / M.Tech. / MD / MS / in Degree in Bio-Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biomedical sciences and allied subjects from a recognized University / Institute.

Ph.D in Botany:
M.Sc. Botany OR M.Sc. in any Allied Subject (M.Sc. in any area of Biological Sciences with 55% marks).

Ph.D in Zoology:

Eligibility
M.Sc. in Biochemistry
B.Sc. with a minimum of 60% marks in the aggregate of Science subjects with Chemistry or Biochemistry as one of the subjects.

M.Sc. in Molecular Microbiology
B. Sc. with a minimum of 60% marks in the aggregate of Science subjects with at least one of the following subjects: Zoology / Genetics / Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Botany / Microbiology / Life Sciences.

Ph.D. in Biochemistry:
Candidates having a Masters degree in Biochemistry / in a closely related area with at least 55% marks / an MBBS degree with a minimum of 55% marks and are qualified for a Junior Research fellowship (JRF) in any of the National Entrance Examinations like CSIR/UGC, ICMR, and DBT-A etc.., / selected directly for SRF- by any of the Ministries of Science and Technology (DST, DBT, CSIR, ICMR etc.,), Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship holders, and also DST- Inspire Junior Research Fellowship Awardees are eligible to apply for Ph.D admission. However, the selection is based on their performance in an interview.

M.Sc. Programme:
This Question paper has 2 Sections: Section A and Section B
Section A consists of 25 objective questions of 1 mark each. There is negative marking of 0.33 mark for every incorrect answer.
The marks obtained by the students in this Section will be used for resolving the tie cases.
Section B consists of 50 objective questions of 1.5 mark each. There is no negative marking in this Section.
Only non-programmable Scientific Calculators are permitted. Mobile phone based calculators are not permitted. Logarithmic tables are not allowed.

Ph.D. Biochemistry:
This Question paper has two parts: Part A and Part B
Part A consists of 20 objective questions related to Research Methodology.
Part B consists of 20 objective questions related to Life Science.
All questions carry 2 marks each. There is no negative marking.

M.Sc. (Wildlife Biology and Conservation) Programme:
The entrance test contains 4 SECTIONS. Sections A, B and C are multiple choice questions. Each question has only ONE correct or best answer. All questions carry ONE mark. There is NO negative marking. There are a total of 75 questions for a maximum of 75 marks. Section D has an essay type question. The essay carries 25 marks. However, to qualify for your essay to be graded, you must score a minimum of 50% in each of Sections A, B and C. You are allowed a maximum of 3 hours for the exam (estimating about 2 hours and 15 minutes for Sections A, B and C and 45 minutes for Section D).
